Pic Today 5/4/10

R. M. CARDETTI & SONS
MERCANTILE CO.
ROSATI, MO

The original general store (still standing)
on old Route 66 (now Hwy. KK) in
Rosati (formerly Knob View, Missouri).
Located half way between Cuba and St. James,
in Phelps County, Rosati was a small settlement
populated by immigrant Italian families at the
turn of the century. The area was agricultural
and a center for vineyards and the wine industry
(until prohibition.) This was part of the Osage Trail,
300 years ago, used by Indians, as well as
traders and early settlers.
Leo Cardetti, who recently passed away, has
constructed an exact replica of this famous general store
in St. James, Missouri,
at Leo Cardetti's Flag & Flag Pole Company,
210 North Jefferson Street.
The replica store is in honor of Leo's father
who built and operated the original store in Rosati.
