GIVING THANKS
TO THE SACRED LOTUS FLOWER

I give thanks this day,
for my health and recovery,
in my most sacred place of worship . . .
God's garden of growing things
and Nature.

I choose the sacred lotus flower
which blooms this month
which is perfect from the mud beneath,
and beautiful at every stage of life.

Thank you lotus
for my good health
and your perfect form.

You are sacred.
Eternal. And good for me.

GOOD NEWS:
MY TUMOR IS BENIGN

It's the best possible news . . .
the tumor is benign!
And the procedure was a complete success.

Yes, I'm sore . . . but so relieved and grateful.
I undergo some physical therapy for the
next 2 months, and will regain full movement.

In fact, my doctor is allowing me to
shoot a wedding this coming weekend
(with an assistant's help!)

. . . and no dancing (ha.)

Thanks for all your kind messages and prayers!

FLOATING DOWN
THE MISTY MERAMEC

Moist summer air rolls across
the cool waters of the Meramec River
creating a blanket of fog in summer
and a dreamy "float trip" for canoers & kayaks
down this gentle Ozark stream.

Whether fishing for rainbow trout
or just enjoying the local scenery,
floaters enjoy the peaceful pace
of paddling, fishing or just taking in the quiet beauty.

GIVE US THIS DAY
OUR DAILY BREAD

. . . and make it Great Harvest
fresh milled bread, please.

Great bread has just come to Kirkwood,
and if the 'FRESH HOT BREAD' front window sign
doesn't pull you inside,
they'll give you a free sample slice
of their hand made breads if you ask.

Great Harvest features whole grain milling wheat
from family owned farms in northern Montana.
They mill this wheat each morning, and kneed each loaf
for the most delicious freshly made breads in town.

Their 'honey whole wheat' bread is a crowd pleaser
and is made from 5 simple ingredients (no preservatives):

o Freshly milled whole wheat flour
o Water
o Yeast
o Salt
o A touch of honey

Great Harvest Bread is across the street
from the Kirkwood Train Station
on Argonne Drive in downtown Kirkwood.

Try a slice this weekend.
You'll get hooked!

TAKING A HIKE
THROUGH LAUMEIER SCULPTURE PARK

We're lucky to have the fabulous 105-acre
Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis County . . .
home to 75 permanent outdoor installations
by internationally famous sculptors.

Some require a hike through trails
in the mostly wooded park,
including the original stone estate and abandoned pool
of the original donor, Mrs. Matilda Laumeier in 1968.

In addition to its permanent outdoor art collection,
Laumeier holds art fairs and outdoor evening concerts
throughout the year. Performers have included
B.B. King, James Brown, the Indigo Girls, Cowboy Junkies
and the renowned St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Some sculpture installations seem to stare back at you . . .

"IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING"

Gilda Radner said that,
and she was right.

It IS always something,
and it's how we deal with what life hands us
that makes all the difference.

Take my tumor, for instance . . .
which the MRI has just discovered.
It's there, to be sure;
that little round eye to the left of the image
(2.5 cm to be exact.)

It's why my shoulder has been in pain all these weeks.
And we discovered it early, and small.

So now it's time to get him out of there,
and get on with LIFE.

Cheers!
Here's to Gilda.

WHAT'S IT LIKE,
HAVING AN M-R-I?

Describing my MRI experience yesterday . . .

they slide your body into the slender opening
of this massive machine (with inches to spare),
ask you to remain still for 30-minutes,
and warn you that it's a "noisy experience."

OK, I've got a better explanation . . .

it's like pushing a plump green bean
into a soda straw that's too thin,
and setting off firecrackers and machine gun fire,
while you do your best to "remain still."

I get the results of my MRI pictures later today.

ON THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER

. . . it's fitting the sacred lotus begins to bloom.

The lotus flower has been considered sacred
for most of written history
due to its amazing ability to grow and prosper
from the bottom of the muddiest ponds,
to flower and greet the summer months
high above the surface . . .
to reach the heavens and aspire to greater things.

Considered to be of divine origin,
the lotus is viewed as sacred by Hindus and Buddhists alike.

(Curiously, each lotus blossom wakes up at dawn
and goes to sleep, closing at 2:00 pm.)

May your blooms "reach the heavens" this summer!

LILIES OF THE FIELD

Lilies are putting on a show now.
All our rain and warm weather have
produced magnificent color combinations.

"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow;
they toil not, neither do they spin."

-- Matthew, 6:28
