FLEUR-DE-LIS

It is French royalty that claimed
the iris to be their national symbol
of elegance, refinement and opulence.

The iris is the official fleur-de-lis
and symbol of the French monarchy,
as well as numerous coats-of-arms
for cities, countries and organizations.

After all, the iris is one magnificent flower
that stands above all others
at this time of year.

Their blooms cover a range of colors
and combinations thanks to iris breeders
and cross hybridization.

The fleur-de-lis est magnifique!

  2. I like men who photograph flowers, those who betray their sensitivity with your camera.
    They're beautiful ...
    Lovely souls.

  3. They are all beautiful but where are the blue irises? I have read that the blue iris is the symbol os masculinity and heroism in Japan and is very prominent in the observance of the festival of boys. I always love irises but my favorite ones are blue. I have seen yellow before but never these many varieties. They are amazing!

    1. As I understand it, the blue iris has already come and gone (earlier genus). These "later" iris are the hybridized bearded varieties, with those intense blue/purple colors, alas, missing.
