of elegance, refinement and opulence.
The iris is the official fleur-de-lis
and symbol of the French monarchy,
as well as numerous coats-of-arms
for cities, countries and organizations.
After all, the iris is one magnificent flower
that stands above all others
at this time of year.

and combinations thanks to iris breeders
and cross hybridization.

They are all beautiful but where are the blue irises? I have read that the blue iris is the symbol os masculinity and heroism in Japan and is very prominent in the observance of the festival of boys. I always love irises but my favorite ones are blue. I have seen yellow before but never these many varieties. They are amazing!
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, the blue iris has already come and gone (earlier genus). These "later" iris are the hybridized bearded varieties, with those intense blue/purple colors, alas, missing.
