SACRED LOTUS FLOWERS
HAVE GONE TO SLEEP
Another sign of our extreme heat
can be seen in the plants, especially the flowers.
The lotus flowers have dropped their blossoms
and put their energy into seed pods,
already getting ready for the next season.
Lotus seed pods are always so interesting,
and beautiful as they harden and dry,
with combs protecting 20-30 seeds per pod.
In tropical parts of the world,
lotus seed pods are collected and sold at market.
The seeds are edible, and cooked or eaten raw.
Nature struggles to thrive and survive
this record setting heat.
(And she shall.)
