Pic Today 7/19/12

SWEET CORN:
THE FRESH TASTE OF SUMMER

Fresh picked sweet corn is still
delivered to local markets,
from farmers who have irrigation.

Plump ears of sweet corn
are one of the joys of summer.
Pulling the husks down,
tasting sweet ears fresh from the field,
as the each kernel explodes in your mouth.
Indescribably delicious!

But most farmers are not celebrating corn this year.
The drought has taken this year's crop,
with 80% of the U.S. corn crop lost.
That's bad news for the farmers,
and bad news for the world
which depends on our exports for food.

The drought continues to take its toll.
(We continue to pray for its end.)

  1. Thank you for bringing this them up, followed by wonderful pics. We are drowning in water in Norway and now we are in Poland where we have pretty much rain. But more serious here are hurricanes that are destroying the woods and villages, even they are smaller (only F1)than in USA - what have we done to earth?

  2. I had a corn field ...
As a little girl ran between the plants and the body itched ... but running and smiling at the same time.
Today I bring memories of my childhood ... thanks Rick.
These pictures are OUTSTANDING in every way!
I will pray for rain ...
    Hugs my Rick!
    Many kisses.

  8. the first picture is so soft, almost like a painting :) It hasn't rained for almost a month in our city either, luckily this week was a bit better. The heat is unbarable sometimes...
