DOUBLES BARISTA COMPETITION
AT KALDI'S COFFEE

Twelve pairs of Kaldi's baristas showed up
at the Kaldi's Demun store in St. Louis
Monday evening for a rare "doubles" competition.

Pairs performed against the clock
to prepare assigned coffee drinks
in front of coffee judges,
and an evening of fun in front of
their fellow workers.

"Life is too short to drink decaf."

KIDS LOVE
MODEL TRAINS

Wanna' watch a kid
play for hours, and hours?
Take him to a model train show.

You won't know the youngsters
from the old timers.
(They're all kids at heart.)

NOTHING
MORE SCARY

. . . than a blank piece of paper!

It's Halloween Week.
And I always think about ghosts
and monsters, and scary things
when it's Halloween.

But fact is, there's nothing more scary
than a blank piece of paper.

Whether you're an artist or a writer
 or just a thinker, just remember . . .
"the blank page frightens the good ones,
but terrifies the great ones."

So if it's words, or strokes or ideas,
the thing is to START.
Your work will never be as perfect
as it is the moment before
you actually begin.

I LOVE TO DRIVE
IN THE RAIN

. . . especially in the fall!

"It's cold now.
The rains have come.
The smells are sweet,
This wet autumn."

9-COURSE
GOURMET SEAFOOD DINNER,
WITHOUT FISH

The Rogue Underground Dining Society
held their 23rd gourmet event,
featuring an all seafood dinner
without fish.

Individual courses included fresh catch
from the sea (but strictly non-fish)
 including shrimp, lobster,
scallops, eel, squid, octopus,
caviar and mussels.

True to the spirit of a private,
strictly "underground" dining society,
the event was held in a private basement,
with each course prepared on-site
with fresh caught fare.

PUMPKIN CARVING
AS FINE ART

Master pumpkin carver, Craig
(sculptedpumpkins@aol.com)
shows how pumpkins can be
transformed into fine art
at the Magic House in Kirkwood, MO.

Kids got to decorate their own pumpkins
with stickers, feathers and pipe cleaners.

Is your pumpkin outside your front door yet?
(If not, better hurry.)

SINGING SONGS
TO PRESERVE
MISSOURI'S BEST LAND

At a recent fund raiser and celebration,
on a beautiful fall afternoon,
the River Rats performed near the
famous Treloar Grain Elevator,
along the Katy Trail.

The Katy Trail was converted from
an unused railroad track, and is now
a popular hiking and bike trail
running 225 miles across the state
(150 of which are along the Missouri River.)

The Katy Land Trust seeks to preserve
agricultural lands, forests, river bluffs
and natural areas along this broad corridor.
Worth singing for!
(Thanks Maggie, who just happens
to be my beautiful daughter.)
