ST. LOUIS FLIGHT
An historic solar airplane "first flight"
landed in St. Louis yesterday,
and will continue on its transcontinental flight,
all without one drop of fuel!
The Swiss built "Solar Impulse" is powered,
day and night, by solar cells atop its wings.
It averages 40 mph, high above the clouds,
with its massive wing span . . . and
stores electricity in special batteries.
The pilot wanted to land in St. Louis,
because of the role the city had played
in aviation firsts, namely the
"Spirit of St. Louis"transatlantic flight
by Charles Lindbergh.
