FRUIT OF THE DRAGON

One of the most beautiful tropical fruits
is now in season . . . the dragon fruit.

Popular in South and Central America,
and some parts of southern Asia,
this colorful fruit comes from
the pitaya cactus.

Beneath the pink soft shell
lies a sweet custard-like center --
with a creamy taste of kiwi and pear.
The fruit is high in fiber, rich in
vitamin C and anti-oxidants.

The season is short, so buy some
if you see dragon fruits in your market.

  2. Je connaissais les fruits du cactus " appelés figues de pit" au Portugal, succulents à condition de ne pas manger les épines § Par contre j'apprends une nouvelle recette grâce à toi et tes superbes photos.
    Belle journée, Rick

  8. Hi Rick!
Now that fruit is one of my favorite souvenirs from Nicaragua!
My grand-mother use to prepare a famous juice with it and add lime and sugar!
I will never forget the very special taste I loved so much!
    Great juicy pics!!
