AUTUMN LEAVES
TURN TO GOLD

. . . "black gold," that is.

The bounty of each autumn
happens when the colors fade,
and leaves return to the earth.

There's raking, of course,
but not in the woods . . .
as the leaves' sweet decay
turns into compost.

A gardener's best friend,
and insurance for next year's
healthy plants.

(It's a different kind of beauty,
come full circle.)
