MAYPOLE:
A RITE OF PASSAGE

Since ancient times,
the Maypole Dance has marked
the beginning of a new season.

At Villa Duchesne, like many other schools,
Maypole is incorporated into commencement festivities
as a "rite of passage," celebrating a unity
amongst the graduating class,
symbolized by the weaving of ribbons.

Maypole serves as the last event of the senior class,
as they head towards their future.

(. . . with flowers from their waiting boyfriends.)
