POINSETTIA
THE CHRISTMAS FLOWER

The beautiful poinsettia has been
the favorite Christmas-time flower
for centuries.

Indigenous to Mexico,
Montezuma would have caravans
of this flower brought in to Mexico City
(because it could not be cultivated
in it's high altitude.)
But at lower levels, throughout Mexico,
it reaches heights of 15-feet!

Despite its reputation,
poinsettias are not poisonous.
Its sap can irritate pets, though.

The brightly colored bracts (top leaves)
are actually not the flower.
The flower is quite small, and
blooms yellow in the center of the plant.

Poinsettias are red, white, even yellow
and can come with split colored leaves.
