It's the first time I've ever heard
the phrase "sink eaters"
at Saturday's peach festival
at the Farmers Market.
This year's peach and nectarine crop
is so sweet and plump,
the southern Illinois peach farmers
are calling their fruit so juicy
you should eat them "over the sink."
A peach-tasting competition was held,
to have market customers vote for
their sweetest, juiciest, peachiest favorite.
(Summit Produce "Mount Vernon, Illinois"
orchards won first place.)
Somehow, fresh peaches are best sliced,
orchard temperature, with a scoop
of vanilla ice cream on top.
