WHAT'S THE BIG STINK?

It's the "corpse flower"
(Titan Arum)
and it's due to bloom
sometime in the next week or so.

Every year or two,
it sends up one gigantic
rolled up leaf that unfurls
its umbrella-like blade in
10-days to 2 weeks.

The giant flowering corpse opens quickly,
often in just a couple of hours,
and emits an intense, foul odor
from its tall spike.

Visitors can see* the corpse flower (above)
for the next week or so,
in the Linnaean House conservatory
at Missouri Botanical Garden . . .

*and smell the big stink
if your timing is right!

  1. El otro día la vi por tv y es impresionante, pero creo que el olor es más todavía, el nombre lo dice todo...
