REMNANTS OF ROUTE 66

Starting in the early 1930's,
U.S. Congress began laying down
the first trans-state "super highway."

Straight through,
Chicago to Santa Monica, California.

In Missouri,
from St. Louis to Joplin.
One important stop-off was Cuba, Mo.
(The turn off for reaching my beloved cabin,
on the Meramec River.)

And there are still "remnants" of this
historic original Route 66 (aka Hwy. KK),
which runs through town.

Believe it or not,
the top images are actual motel rooms,
as they served motorists in 1930
on Route 66.

(Expectations were minimal.)

  7. I see signs for route 66 here and try to imagine what it looked like back in the day, but this is great! It would be fun to renovate those little rooms and make them really groovy!
