IN THEIR PRIME

Some trees
are masterpieces
right now.

Like the ginkgo.

Beautiful composition
and color,
this late cool autumn.

(Happy Halloween, everyone.)

HOME MADE
COCONUT CREAM PIE

The best pies in Missouri,
baked fresh every morning.
(Apple, cherry, chocolate
and world-famous coconut cream.)

Lewis Café
St. Clair, Missouri

One hour west of St. Louis,
off I-44, in downtown St. Clair.

(Definitely worth the drive.)

AUTUMN LEAVES

In the tree tops.
 On the ground.

They finally paint the season.

CHERRY TOMATOES'
LAST STAND

Hard freeze warning this weekend.

Time to harvest the remaining
cherry tomatoes before
the first frost takes 'em.

Such a great plant to add
to the vegetable garden.
The pests leave them alone,
and they keep producing
all summer long.

Great in salads, appetizers
or cook'em down and
strain for chili and sauces.

THE COVEN CONVENES

Nine worldly witches
gathered to conjure up
their potions and spells,
and welcome in the
holiday season.

 Serious fun, here.

FAREWELL
SWEET ZOEY

We will miss your smile
each morning,
and your amazing latte art.

Kaldi's is losing a very special
barista and assistant manager.

Good luck at your new home.

HAMILTON
IS COMING TO TOWN

The Broadway musical, Hamilton,
has won every award,
and continues to be the hardest
ticket to get worldwide.

The waiting list for New York
tickets is over a year,
and tickets can cost $1,000 a seat!

Now it's coming to St. Louis
in April of 2018,
to the fabulous Fox Theater.

Tickets went on sale this week,
and "yours truly" stood in line
for 2 hours to nab these
two balcony seats.

Over 5 months away,
and I'm alreaady excited.

FINALLY . . .

The trees have turned.

Our chilly wet weather
is helping fall colors
show their face.

MEMORIES REMAIN

How a vacant house can hold
so many memories within.

Still beautiful
after all these years.

CRAZY INDIAN CORN

Originally cultivated by native Americans,
indian corn is the preferred grain for hominy
and is popular this time of the year
for Halloween decorations in the U.S.

The kernels are randomly colored
in bright unpredictable patterns,
and can be used for popcorn.

Discovered in the Americas by archeologists
as early as 1,000 B.C.,
did you know all corn must be cultivated
and does not grow wild?

CONTACT SHEETS

Hundreds and hundreds of contact sheets!

So much black-and-white film,
 photographs through the years.
Nikon and Leica cameras.

Each roll hand developed,
proofed onto contact sheets.
Choosing which negative
to enlarge.

I miss all those years in my
 Leitz darkrooom.

I still have every sheet, every negative.

(When every shot counted.
No delete button on my cameras.)

THE GINKGOS TURN

As the weather turns
and grows chilly at night,
it's finally time for the
 ginkgo leaves to change.

The fan shaped leaves
are now tipped in gold.

Is there a leaf more beautiful?

Our recent cold, rainy weather
has been good news
if you're a farmer in Missouri,
waiting for your turnips

Time to harvest the turnips!

FRIENDS AND FACES
AT CRYSTAL FEST

So many oohs and aahs
and healing at this year's
Midwest Crystal Fest.

Thank you Ryan Gorman
for bringing it all together
for the 7th annual festival.
