WHAT A LITTLE SUNSHINE
CAN DO

After a long week of rain,
and more rain,
Friday brought us a
bright sunny day
with warm temps.

We shouldn't have been surprised
  by what happened . . .

You could hear the trees
exploding with buds
  and flowering blossoms.

(More rain predicted,
with possible snow on Easter.)

RAINS KEEP
FALLING

 Roads are covered,
rivers flooded.

Hide your eggs in
high, dry places.

WATER WATER
EVERYWHERE

Simply put,
water is life.

Our planet sustains us
because of it.

Be thankful
for our daily rains.

TOO MUCH RAIN

Relentless rains have been falling,
with no end in sight.

Roads are flooded,
creeks overflowing,
and rivers on the rise.

4" rainfall in Kansas City yesterday,
3" in St. Louis,
More forecast tomorrow and
Easter weekend.

Dangerous driving.
Take care.

DAFFODIL PERFECTION

Cold and rainy weather
has disappointed gardeners
this Spring.

But certainly not fanciers
of daffodils.

Absolute perfection!

GEMS AT THE
MINERAL SHOW

Some of the treasures
from our planet
at this weekend's Missouri
Gem and Mineral Show
in St. Louis.

Fluorite and calcite are
common minerals
from our neighboring state,
Illinois, but nothing
like the brilliant purple fluorite
from China (first image.)

Crystals from the earth.
Wow.

WHERE OUR
DRINKING WATER
COMES FROM

This is one of two
water intake houses
in the middle of the
Mississippi River,
where St. Louis gets
it's drinking water.

Built in 1894
and still operating today,
down river from the
Chain of Rocks bridge,
at mile marker 190.2.
Constructed from cut stone
and concrete, to pipe water
to the treatment plant,
withstanding floods and
barge traffic for 124 years.

Wow.

GOT PEEPS?

Easter week is fast approaching.
And we can't imagine the Easter holidays
without Peeps marshmallow chicks.

Started in 1953,
these iconic colorful treats
have spread worldwide as the
favorite Easter chewy candies
that are preferred stale by most.

NOT SO FLATTERING

Normally making it to the cover
of a nationally known magazine
is an honor.

Not the case this month
with The New Yorker.

POETRY IN THE GARDEN

Nothing announces Spring
quite like a trio of narcissus
in the meadow or woods.

With its distinctive yellow cup
surrounded by white corona,
this variety of daffodil
 steals the show.

LIFETIME OF PHOTOGRAPHY
NEVER SEEN

30,000 negatives were discovered
in Russian artist's attic,
revealing a lifetime of photography
never seen or shared.

Russian artist and theater critic
Masha Ivashintsova (1942-2000)
lived a secret life as a photographer
taking over 30,000 photographs in
her lifetime without ever showing a soul.

Her daughter is now organizing a
much-heralded tour of these prized
black-and-white images,
taken during Russia's turbulent years
since 1960.

 TRUMPET OF SPRING

 Daffodils are always the
the first to announce
the arrival of the Equinox.

(Finally.)

WHEN DAFFODILS
AWAKEN

On the edge of the woods,
a sure sign of Spring
is announced by
a stand of wild daffodils.

Just in time for the Equinox.

BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE

Promoter/owner, Joe Edwards,
has a quiet lunch Wednesday
at his iconic bar/restaurant
and music club, Blueberry Hill,
nationally known venue
for the late Chuck Berry.

Edwards has personally revitalized
"the Loop" neighborhood
with his developments,
including The Duck Room, Pageant
Theater, Pin Up Bowl, Moonrise Hotel
and the recently restored and launched,
Loop Trolley which runs the length
of the Loop.

 Sitting at Blueberry's bar,
as Joe will tell you, is
the best seat in the house.

SNOW'S SUDDEN BRUSHSTROKES

Yesterday's snow blizzard
left little more than
white brushstrokes on
our warm surroundings.

This scene,
now gone and melted,
at Laumeier Sculpture Park
in St. Louis County.

ESPRESSO IN THE SNOW

A very heavy snow
on a mild Spring morning
made my morning espresso
thoroughly enjoyable.

CRAZY VINES

Glance at winter woods,
before Spring buds and leaves
show branch direction.

Crazy twists and curls
confuse the sky.

(Did you change your clocks last night?)

ALWAYS THE FIRST
TO BLOOM

Wild Witch Hazel
is always the first
to show its red flowers
on the banks of the Meramec.

(Don't forget to "spring forward"
and set your clocks ahead
one hour tonight.)

LUMBERJACKS
ON THE MERAMEC

Fresh signs that
"logging crews" are busy
down on the upper Meramec River.

No saws or axes,
just very sharp teeth.

SUDDEN SNOWFALL

Just when we thought
Winter was over,
and Spring was suddenly
warm and early this year.

Kapow!
Sudden snow bursts
  and freezing winds
remind us otherwise.

SPRING SNOW FLURRIES

Following our warm taste
of an early Spring,
we are reminded how fast
winter winds and freezing temps
can fill the skies with
frozen white flakes.

(Now where did I put my scarf?)

Brrrrr.

FOCUS ON CROCUS

Watch out.
Or you'll stumble
on these cute little
crocus flowers.

They seem to be
popping up all over town.

Purple, yellow, white, striped.
They're here to announce
the beginning of Spring.

ADULT COLORING NIGHT
AT KALDI'S

Coloring books and coffee.
What a match.

Especially when the newest
single origin coffee (Congo)
and all the materials
are "on the house."

HEAD START ON SPRING

All our rain and warm weather
gave the crocus bulbs
all they needed

To pop up and say
 "Happy 1st Day of March."
