ONE BILLION TOOTHBRUSHES

will be discarded in the U.S. this year!

There are biodegradable alternatives,
but plastic toothbrushes prevail.

Ask your dentist and pharmacy
for non-plastic brushes.

We are burying our oceans in plastic waste.
Please choose wisely.

(And have a great New Year.)

THIS IS THE WEEK
TO RECYCLE
YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE

Assuming it's a real tree,
and you've removed
all the ornaments!

Your local government office
will know where you can take it.
The lot where you bought it
will have drop off locations.

Otherwise, starting this week
your local Home Depot will
accept your tree.

And your conservation department
may have a nearby tree drop off spot.
(They sink trees in lakes and ponds
for fish propagation.)

Hope you had a great holiday.

THESE 25 LUCKY GUESTS
ENJOYED A ROGUE UNDERGROUND

At City Garden last night,
on a rainy night in St. Louis.

Artistic, creative, chef inspired,
beautifully crafted dishes,
matched with seasonal wines.

A beautiful way to end a year
of creative cuisine.

Wow.

DOWNTOWN KIRKWOOD
CHRISTMAS DAY

"Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse."

No traffic, no people,
just a sunny beautiful day.

Everything was closed.

I loved it.

Sunny, blue skies, 70-degrees.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
EVERYONE

Enjoy this day.
Especially the traditions.

For me,
it's waking up,
opening presents.

And Christmas stolen.
freshly warmed.

(Thank you
Nathaniel Reid Bakery,
for baking this year's stolen.)

I love this, every year.

LEMONS AS GIFTS

This morning we celebrate
Christmas Eve at Kaldi's Coffee.

My Meyer Lemon tree has been
productive this year, and has solved
the problem of "what to give my
morning friends" who meet for coffee.

Voila!

A sweet and juicy, just picked lemon!
(No wrapping required.)

WISHING YOU
A PERSONAL ANGEL
THIS CHRISTMAS

May he or she watch over you
and send you blessings
this holiday season.

And be as good as "Clarence" was
in Frank Capra's classic
"It's A Wonderful Life."

LEMON HARVEST TIME

Each Christmas,
my Meyer Lemon tree
gives me a ripe crop of
sweet lemons.

So dependable.
I hand them out to friends,
sweet gifts each year.

Merry Christmas.

SNOW STORM
COVERS KIRKWOOD

An all day snow storm
emptied the streets and
closed most businesses
in Kirkwood last evening.

A beautiful snow fall,
and just in time for Christmas.

STANDING GUARD

High atop Art Hill
in Forest Park, St. Louis.

"St. Louis" oversees his city,
and awaits the first snow storm
of the year.

This is where sledders will gather
once the snow starts falling.

CARTOON FOR THE DAY

Paged through some old issues
of the NEW YORKER,
while waiting for my doctor.

Seemed fittingly appropriate,
for Friday the 13th.

Check out today's cover shot
of TIME Magazine.

THE POWER OF YOUTH

Time Magazine names teen climate change
activist Greta Thunberg
2019 Person of the Year.

This is the first time the magazine has
honored a teenager.
The accolade goes to the person
who "has most influenced the
news of the world."

She is quoted as responding
"people are suffering,  people are dying,
ecosystems are collapsing, and
all you talk about is money
and eternal fairy tales of economic
growth . . . How dare you?"

FRESH CROP
MO. CHESTNUTS

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose."

Always reminds me of Nat King Cole,
and Christmas time.

Fresh crop available now
at Kirkwood Farmers Market.

SUCH A GREAT SANTA

The Plaza Frontenac in St. Louis
is where you want to go
for an old fashioned
"on Santa's lap"
holiday photo.

He's perfect.

And if you go there, after 5:00,
you can add a pet.

(Consider the possibilities.)

WINTER BERRIES AT CHRISTMAS

If your neighbor has a hedge
of Winter Berry,
ask if you can cut a few branches.

You can make the most beautiful
Christmas wreath for your door.

It will last all season long.

MY MEYER LEMONS ARE
RIPE AND READY

Just in time for Christmas.

And to think
I didn't have time to get
Christmas gifts for
my friends.

Same thing happened last year.

Love my Meyer Lemon tree.

POINSETTIA

The "flower of Christmas."

Introduced from Mexico, it is widely
propagated for indoor use during
the holidays.

The bright red bracts are often
mistaken for flower petals,
but are actually leaves.

Despite its earlier reputation,
no part of the poinsettia is poisonous.
