THANKSGIVING GETAWAY

Renting a furnished 3-bedroom
resort villa, complete with full kitchen,
was just the what we needed to
hold an overnight Thanksgiving venue
for 17 family members for in
the beautiful wooded scenery of
central Missouri.

We cooked, we played, we fished,
we feasted, we slept.
All in a natural setting at
Innsbrook resort.

Everyone pitched in,
and cooked an assigned dish.

We even shared a past vacation
slide show!

So sorry, Annabel and Jordan
whose flight was cancelled
by a monster snow storm.

Let's try again next year.

BEHOLD THE EMPTY SLIDE TRAY

I've been commanded
to pull out the family slides,
about 2,000 of them.

For the family reunion
on Turkey Day.

Do you how hard this is?
Viewing each one, deciding
which ones to include.

And I've only got 2 trays.

The show must go on!

THANK YOU,
NEW YORK TIMES

. . . for running this simple ad
in yesterday's New York Times.

In this age of bipartisan politics
and ruthless corruption of power,
thank God for integrity in
journalism.

The truth is worth it.

Bravo.

SUN'S LAST RAYS

Station Plaza,
downtown Kirkwood.

Feels like the last warm day
of autumn.

(What are these plants, anyway?)

Cabbages?

TIME TO GO
TREE SHOPPING

The holidays are here.
Time to pull out the lights
and start getting festive.

Big tree?   Little tree?

Tis the season.

BEST SANDWICHES
IN TOWN

The best sandwiches require
the best bread.

That's easy.
Go to Union Loafers Bakery,
on Tower Grove Avenue
in Botanical Heights,
St. Louis.

Chewy baguettes.
Makes all the difference.

NICE KITTY

All cats are sweet, loving,
purring, so nice to own.

Right?

(Maybe not.)

SNOWS RETREAT

Warmer days
help the ice and snow
feed our streams
and rivers.

While the sun feels good
on our faces and our moods.

STREET ART

Oil and water don't mix.
But it can be beautiful.

As shown underneath my car,
on the wet pavement today.

Discovering rainbows in
surprising places.

DID YOU EVER NOTICE

Snow melts and thaws
in circles?

Love our warmer weather.

2 SWEET REASONS
TO GROW MEYER LEMONS

Sweet, fragrant blooms that
will the fill the house with perfume,
and

the sweetest,  juiciest
fruit you can eat like
an orange.

WINTER HAS BEGUN

Sunday afternoon,
sunny and warm.

SPIDERS HATE THESE

See these strange green
brain-like fruits on the ground
these days?

They're Osage Oranges,
or "hedge apples",
and they're falling
from their host tree now
(Maclura Pomifera).

They're heavy, so not a good idea
to park under these mighty trees.
They'll dent your car for sure.

They're natural repellants to spiders,
so you can place them where ever
you have spiders.   They last about
3 months before spoiling.

GOD'S EYE FEATHER
WALL HANGING

Hanging at the cabin.

Everytime we find a feather
(turkey, bald eagle, owls,
great blue heron),
it is added to this wall hanging.

A blessing and good luck.

As leaves are drained of their
brilliant fall colors.

I love the patterns.

the trees are on fire this year.

Love this season.

ANOTHER VINTAGE MOTEL ROOM

Starting in 1938, the famous Route 66
went from Chicago, through Missouri,
and out west to San Diego.

There are some rare preserved examples
(like this one in Cuba, Missouri)
that must have been cozy,
inexpensive sleep-overs en route
to the west coast.

What an adventure.

ROUTE 66 ORIGINAL

A survivor.
One of the first "motels"
along Route 66.

America took to the roads,
with the birth of Route 66.
2-lane highway from Chicago
to Santa Monica, California.

Some sections are still recognized
as "original route", with preserved
original motel units,
like this one in Cuba, Missouri.

Cozy, huh?

THE LEAVES OF AUTUMN

I love the colors, the tones,
each one.

Neighbors are obsessed with raking.

I'm obsessed with recycling
back to the earth.

CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES:
THE HUMAN TOLL

Our hats off to the 20,000 firefighters,
and the 1,000 volunteer prison inmates,
who continue fighting the fierce blazes
in endangered California wildfires.

And the human effort to move
threatened horses and livestock
to safer refuge.

God bless their tireless efforts.
