AUTUMN'S LAST WARMTH

The last sunny days of fall
are quickly giving way to rainy days
and chilly nights.

Capturing the season's final rays of sun
feels good on my face.

I close my eyes
and remember the best days
of sandals and shorts.

Sweater weather is here!

THE SEASON FOR CONTRAILS

. . . and amazing clouds
we don't see any other time of the year.

Autumn brings cold, dry air.
It's how and why we see
totally different clouds.

Like contrails.

Contrails are short for
"condensation trails" (vapor trails),
left behind by jet aircraft.

Jet exhaust is carbon dioxide and water vapor.
The water hits the dry, cold atmosphere of autumn,
and leaves frozen straight-line traces in the sky.

Technically, contrails are man-made clouds . . .
but they're more like "chalk lines" against an azure sky.
A sure sign that winter's on the way.

There are many different clouds worth seeing,
now that summer is past.
Some like brush strokes on a blue canvass.

And then there's the sunsets . . .

A BYGONE ERA

Look what my next door neighbor just bought?
(And I'm so jealous!)

This is the 1974 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible.
In Flaming Red, no less.

This is the last year of the famous Eldorado convertibles,
one of the longest U.S. production cars ever made.
235 inches!
(Try to find a parking space for this baby.)

Scott bought this from a "little old lady" (really).
All original -- 50,000 miles.
It runs like a dream.
(And gets a cool 7-miles-to-the-gallon. Ouch.)

He paid $3,000.
(He can afford the gasoline.)

SWEET PASTURE GRASS

These are happy horses . . .

sunny days, cool nights,
and the sweet grass of autumn.
