SANDCASTLE BEACH
AT MAGIC HOUSE
There's a beach playground in Kirkwood,
and a giant sandcastle sculpture
constructed by St. Louis artist Dan Belcher.
It's all on display (and for play)
at the Magic House in Kirkwood.
Dan has made a living building sand sculptures
around the world . . . to installations in
China, Japan, Bahrain, Bermuda, Australia
and even London, for the upcoming Olympics.
The one in China will require 20,000 tons of sand,
reaching heights of 60-feet . . .
while this sandcastle only took 20 tons,
but featured fine Meramec River sand
which holds together nicely and lasts months.
This installation took about 3 weeks to build,
and will likely last the summer
(severe weather notwithstanding.)
