DELIVERING MILK

TO YOUR DOOR

It all started around 1910,

when milk was delivered in wagons,

fresh from the dairy,

by horseback!

Horses gave way to trucks.

Refrigeration made household milk a commodity.

By the 1930s, most milk was delivered

at the back door by your local "milk man."

Things have changed since then,

and milk trucks have rusted away

in favor of grocery store plastic bottles.

But there's a come-back in home delivery of milk.

Here in St. Louis, as in other major metro markets,

milk trucks are hitting the road again.

Here, Oberweiss Dairy is signing up home customers

for delivery of "real milk in real glass bottles"

in "real milk trucks."

(And their milk is sourced from family farms

that DO NOT use bovine growth hormones.)

Oberweiss' business is booming.

In fact, they're buying and reconditioning

old milk trucks, from a bygone era.

An idea whose time has come.

Again!

(And they'll deliver CHOCOLATE milk.)

SEE MY PRETTY ROCKS

These aren't just rocks.

These are agates.

Beautiful laguna agates, from Mexico.

Considered by collectors

the most beautiful banded agates in the world.

Their intense color combinations make them unique.

Laguna agates are found in the rugged hills

of Ojo Laguna, just north of Chihuahua, Mexico,

150 miles south of El Paso, Texas.

Unfortunately, the choice mining spots there

have carefully guarded claims,

which make these beautiful "rocks" even more scarce.

Laguna nodules average 3-4" in diameter,

and when sawed and polished,

have spectacular bands of color within.

DISSECTING VIEWS

ON ONE PIECE OF ART

How we look at art . . .

there are so many ways, so many views.

Take this outdoor sculpture,

at Washington University School of Architecture:

a class project, called "Salt Works",

(mixed media: plywood and plastic),

constructed at the graduate studio,

under the direction of Joe MacDonald.

An "organic shape of concave shapes"

that plays with light and shadows!

"STICKWORK ON CAMPUS"

Drive along Forsyth Boulevard,

next to Washington University (St. Louis),

and you'll see two new "buildings."

It's the result of a recent installation by art students,

under the direction and supervision of

internationally renowned sculptor, Patrick Dougherty.

Two 20-foot high branch houses were the

brain child of Dougherty, who had the students

collect 20,000 sticks and branches from the area

(mostly willow and dogwood.)

These all natural constructions were erected

and hand assembled in 3 weeks time,

and will weather naturally through the seasons.

The sculpture is entitled "Double Or Nothing."

Now THAT'S what I call a "tree house."
