Afternoon stained glass colors,

Wow.

LAST OF THE SEASON

Fresh picked rhubarb,
is always a lucky find,
especially the yellow stalks.

Cut some up,
but not the leaves.
Cook with sliced strawberries
and enough sugar to sweeten.

Pour over shortcake
for a summertime treat.

Yum.

PERENNIALS
THAT ENDURE

Cone flowers and
black eyed susans.

Garden favorites that
thrive in our weather extremes.

Hurricane Barry reaches us
here in Missouri on Tuesday.

MOSAIC MASTERPIECE

Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis.
(Also known as the New Cathedral)

41.5 million pieces of colored glass,
over 7000 different colors.

Started in the early 1900s,
completed in 1914.

The side chapels were designed and
installed by Tiffany & Company.
While the main cathedral was designed
and painstakingly cemented in place
by Paul and Arno Heuduck,
who spent their entire working lives
completing this masterpiece.

(The final photo is a close up
of their mosaic work.)

Definitely worth a visit.

FAVORITE MOMENTS
THIS PAST JULY 4TH WEEKEND

Moss covered steps down
to the Spring.
Mist above the cool cool
Spring waters.
Ripening fruits hanging
from the PawPaw trees.
Wild blackberries still red
needing to ripen on the vine.
And 4th of July breakfast
out on the deck.

What a great retreat!

LESSON LEARNED

Great holiday weekend
down at the river . . .

BUT . . .

Don't take a VW Jetta
down on the gravel bar.

It took a tractor, and
friends shoveling us out.

What was I thinking?

RELAXING ON THE 4TH

So peaceful and beautiful
sitting in the upper
Meramec River.

Just what the doctor ordered!

HOLIDAY GREETINGS
FROM THE MERAMEC

Staying cool
with friends and family.

Love this river.

(Be back tomorrow.)

OFF TO THE CABIN
FOR THE 4TH OF JULY

Skipping the crowds,
heading straight to the river.

The Upper Meramec River.

Clean, cool, peaceful.

Happy 4th, everyone!

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

I'll be down at the cabin tomorrow,
on the river, and in the river.

The safest place to shoot off fireworks.

My favorites this year . . .

Strobing roman candles,
and exploding skulls.

PEACH CROP IS IN

Southern Illinois peaches
are something special.
Just in time for the
4th of July!

And you should get some
for your Thursday holiday barbecue!

Grilled fresh peaches.
Just cut 'em in half.
And pop 'em on the "barbie."

Or spoon 'em hot
on vanilla ice cream.
OMG.

TODD'S NEW JEEP

And it's a beauty!

A 1990 Grand Wagoneer.
Wood paneled, in white,
black leather interior,
alloy wheels.

My morning coffee buddy
adds this beast to his
classic car collection.

King of the road.
Here comes Todd.

At almost any country fence line
you'll find these perennial
Black Eyed Susans.

Cut a bouquet for the

DESPERATE PRICE PAID

This shocking image has been
viewed world wide.

A young father and his 23-month daughter,
Salvadorian immigrants, drowned
crossing the Rio Grande River
hoping to request immigration to the U.S.

This tragedy is just one of the many
travesties, resulting from our administration's
restrictive immigration policies.

Time for a change!

Lucky days ahead?
Summer days without rain?

MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

Saw some fresh picked rhubarb
at the Farmers Market, so . . .

grabbed a quart of homegrown
strawberries, because . . .

Nothing better than cooked
rhubarb  and strawberries!

Yum!
