JANUARY'S FINAL DAY

Hazy, cloudy, muted tones.
Loving the light.

Warm weekend ahead.

Enjoy.

The truth can make us laugh out loud.

SCHOOLS CLOSED
DUE TO FOG?

Some parts of town yesterday
had schools closed
due to fog!

Didn't know they did that,
but morning visibility was zero.

Just as dangerous as snow and ice.
Maybe more so.

PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS

Raging fires,
melting ice caps,
extreme weather,
global distress.

And now
locusts take their toll
on Ethiopia.

"In just one day, a swarm of locusts
the size of Paris
can eat the same amount of food
as half the population of France."

It's happening.
Now.

LOVELY SNOWFALL

The kind of snow
that quietly covers the city.

Large soft flakes
that float and stick.

Maybe snowman
building material.

"BOMBS AWAY"
A FULL SCALE EXHIBIT
BY A. WEIWEI
(2019)

An emotionally troubling exhibit
of full scale renderings of
43 weapons of mass destruction,
including the U.S. B-83
guided nuclear bomb (2019).

Reproduced actual size
at the entrance of his recent
exhibit at the Kemper Museum,
St. Louis.

Very disturbing.
Certainly the artist's intent.

MEET "SEWELO"
A 1,758-CARAT ROUGH DIAMOND

and the largest raw diamond discovered
in the last 125 years.

And the second-biggest ever mined
has a new owner . . .

Louis Vuitton,
the French luxury brand company,
owned by LVMH.

How the Sewelo is displayed or
cut into priceless jewelry pieces
remains to be seen.

The sales price has remained undisclosed.

WOOD FIRED PIZZA

Nothing like the taste of
  hand-thrown pies
in a wood burning oven.

Especially on a cold winter's day.

Yum.

BANK GUARD

Living in BogotÃ¥.

An exciting time in my life.

The bank guards holding
sawed-off shotguns.
Drug sniffing dogs.

We always felt safe in
our Barrio.

GOOD DAY
TO VISIT THE
GREAT EYE BALL

Sun's out.
Temps warming up.

Felt good to get out
to Laumeier Sculpture Park.

A LITTLE SNOW,
A LITTLE ICE

It's still fun to discover
winter still-life scenes
in the neighborhood.

Warm one day,
freezing the next.

AUSTRALIA IS BURNING

18-million acres destroyed.
Nearly 1-billion animals lost,
with long term damage to
sensitive ecosystems.

Koalas and kangaroos trapped
with no escape.

What can you do?

1.  gifts.worldwildlife.org

2.  Believe in climate change.

As Australia burns, its leaders
are clinging to coal.

It's time to act.

GARDEN GLOW
AT MISSOURI BOTANICAL

A million lights
and the garden at night,
with toasty fires to warm you up.

Hope you made it there
during the holidays,
cause it just closed down
this past weekend.

Such a beautiful sight,
such a beautiful garden.

FOR MY PHOTOGRAPHER FRIENDS

One of my favorite Gahan Wilson cartoons.

Legendary macabre cartoonist
for Playboy, National Lampoon
and the New Yorker.

He passed away late last year,
and will be missed by many.

AMAZING ART INSTALLATION
AT THE KEMPER MUSEUM

Exiled Chinese artist and activist
Ai Weiwei (b. 1957)
has installed an impressive exhibit
in the newly refurbished Kemper Museum
at Washington University, St. Louis.

Constructions, installations, sculptures
and photographs, on sensitive themes
raising questions about our
shared humanity.

Best show I've seen in a long time.
(And free.)

LOVING POMEGRANATES

So much to love about pomegranates --

Fun to open up (and easy too).

You can eat the seeds,
float them in champagne,
or add them to salads.

They get their vibrant red from polyphenols.
Sky high in antioxidants,
helping remove "free radicals,"
protecting cells from damage and
reducing inflammation.

Rich in Vitamin C, so much more
than pasteurized juices.
Cancer preventative,
Alzheimer's disease protection,
aids digestion,
arthritis relief,
memory improver,
sports performance enhancer.

Oh yeah
and absolutely delicious.
