PLANTING THE SPRING GARDEN
Hoping the hard freezes of winter
have passed us,
Maggie and I turned the soil
and planted some cool-weather seedlings
in our 2015 vegetable garden.
Russian kale, Swiss chard and
spinach should do well,
while we wait for warmer temps.
We started indoor trays
under grow lights,
for eggplant, bush beans, beets
and cherry tomatoes.
It's great fun to grow our own!

VINTAGE FUN
IN DENVER
One of the oldest amusement parks
in America is just west of Denver,
featuring more vintage rides and structures
than any other.
Opened in 1908,
the Lakeside Amusement Park
features 3 roller coasters,
including the oldest wooden coaster
(the "CYCLONE") still in operation,
bumper boats, the Wild Chipmunk,
the Loop-O-Plane, Flying Dutchman
and a vintage art deco Fun House.
The Tower of Jewels is one of the tallest
buildings in metro west Denver,
covered with 5,000 colored lights.
Unfortunately, the park was closed
during my Colorado visit,
but I can't wait to return and photograph
this fantastic landmark
(before it's lost to history.)
I doubt very much if I'll be riding
on those old wooden coaster tracks!

BETTE'S ALPACA RANCH
NEDERLAND, COLORADO
Visited our good friend, Bette
(www.doublebrranch.com)
and her sweet, super soft alpacas.
Such sweet animals.
They love the mountains.
Have you ever petted an alpaca?
(Soooo soft.)
Bette Rittinger sells prize winning alpacas,
natural alpaca fur, and alpaca fashions.
Check her website.

BRILLIANT:
CARTIER IN THE 20th CENTURY
From hat pins to crown jewels,
this fabulous, over-the-top exhibit
of Cartier's greatest works
were on display at the Denver Art Museum.
(And I was lucky enough to view it
on the exhibit's final day.)
Hundreds of millions of dollars in
commissioned jewelry was assembled
which included crowns, tiaras, necklaces,
broaches, bracelets, and phenomenal
presentation pieces . . .
for royalty, movie stars, maharajas,
and discerning customers
with very expensive tastes.
My favorites . . .
a 485 carat blue saphire pendant (OMG)
and an exquisite double crocodile necklace!
(Did you know PEARLS were more rare
than DIAMONDS when most of these
pieces were made?)
