THE WEST COAST IS AFLAME

Consider this . . .

7,700 separate wild fires in 5 states.

3,200,000 acres destroyed.

5,000 homes and structures destroyed.

Imagine finding what is now left
of your home, your belongings.

It will be months until it's safe
to breath the air in half the nation's
metropolitan areas.

It's time to consider the consequences
of climate change.

Wake up people.

WE'RE ABOUT TO BE DAZZELED

If you're near Kirkwood, Missouri,
you're aware of a quiet addition to
to the neighborhood.

That strange building on the corner
of Monroe and Taylor.

Here's a peek at the "about to open"
Kirkwood Performing Arts Center.

All I can say is WOW.

It's huge.
Grand opening next month.
This will change the arts scene
in St. Louis, forever.

And they've got the most accomplished,
experienced and creative director
at the helm . . .

CALIFORNIA ON FIRE

Believe it or not, but this is downtown
San Francisco, on the Embarcadero,
10:30am Thursday morning.

California is devastated by 28 separate
and major wildfires, making this the
worst fire in the state's history.

The air is orange throughout the Bay Area, and
especially dangerous up through Washington state,
displacing 64,000 residents thus far.

300,000 acres of forest and timberland
have been destroyed thus far,
with whole towns up in flames.

Climate change is widely attributed
to these dry and windy conditions,
with no relief in sight.

The toll to wildlife and residents won't
be known until the fires subside.

God bless all who have lost their homes,
and to the firefighters who bravely
battle this blaze.

UGLIEST CHAIR EVER

Every once in a while,
I recover discarded items
in our community dumpster.

My best find, last year,
a full size KitchenAid mixer.

But not today!

This has to be the ugliest chair
ever recycled in the trash.

(Mid 1980s, don't you think?)

And last night's thunderstorm
didn't help it, one bit.

THE REASON I GET UP EARLY
SATURDAY MORNINGS

To be "first in line" at
Ronnie's organic veggie stand
at the Kirkwood Farmers Market.

Fresh picked garden vegetables,
lovingly grown, 100% organic.

Gorgeous leafy greens, sweetest peppers,
squash and onions, and the best tasting
green beans I've ever tasted.

Thank you, Ronnie, for driving up
to Kirkwood each Sunday,
3 hours from your farm.

We love you,
your perfect produce.
See you next week.

THE BEST APPLE BUTTER

Is found in Brussels, Illinois
at Odelehr Farms roadside stand.

Cooked by hand in copper pots
from local orchards.

Drive across the Mississippi River
up the great river road in Illinois,
past Grafton, up to Pere Marquette Park.
Take the Brussels ferry (it's free)
to Brussels, Illinois.
You'll see the Odelehr Farms
roadside stand.

Pull in.
Taste what old fashioned Apple Butter
should taste like.

Been driving over there for years.
You'll be glad you did.

MOVE OVER PEACHES,
APPLES ARE HERE

We've been lucky enough to enjoy
a fabulous peach crop this season.

Now we're blessed with a bounty
of local apples, especially across
the river in Illinois.

They'll make it to our local
farmers markets, soon enough.
But you might want to book some
apple picking dates at Eckerts Orchards
in Belleville or Milstadt, Illinois.

Take the kids.  They'll love it.

You can book reservations at
Eckerts.com

OLD BARN LOVE

Even when they're on their
last barn legs,

Don't you love 'em?

And they're becoming an
endangered species.

Definitely part of our
agricultural heritage!
