AND THE SKY TURNED DARK
Words are difficult
to describe yesterday's
total solar eclipse.
By noon, it was blistery hot.
An hour later, the sunlight dimmed,
and the air turned chilly.
It was impossible to photograph,
impossible to describe.
The perfect corona
circling a black moon.
Viewing the universe.
Spellbinding beauty.

RABBIT IN THE SKY
And there he was,
the weekend before
our total solar eclipse.
A rabbit in the sky!
It is said that the Buddha,
disguised as a rabbit,
threw himself in a fire
as sacrifice to the god Indra.
His reward was to live as a moon.
Coincidence?
Certainly not.
The rabbit is the totem
for the coming celestial event,
where the moon blocks all of the sun.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT
Monday, August 21
Take the day off.
Where will you be?
They say this one's
going to be spectacular.
If you're lucky enough
to be in the path.
You're in for a treat.
See above map for the U.S.
You'll notice Cuba, Missouri,
is one of the featured cities.
I'll be on the gravel bar, in the middle
of the Meramec River.
(Photo is typical corona display
when the moon gets exactly between
the Sun and the Earth.)
Time stops. You can see stars
in the sky! Animals hide.
Birds are silent.
Be there!
