Along the shore,

shallow river waters

show the patterns

On Missouri oaks,

especially on wet bark,

in winter woods.

A beautiful medicinal

slow-growing organism,

part fungus, part alga.

THE ICE STORM

Sunday ice storm

covered our city 

in ice!

Every street.

Every side walk.

Every stairway.

Wait.  How can I get

to my Sunday morning

coffee shop?

HARD HIKING

Down where the Missouri River

meets the Mississippi

is the Ted Jones Missouri State Park

where you can hike down

to the confluence of the 2 rivers.

Not far from where Lewis and Clark

set out on their Corps of Discovery river route

to the Northwest Passage.

Cottonwoods and tough river vines

are so thick, it's hard to make your way

to see where the river waters mix.

MOTEL SIGNS

Original 66 Auto Court sign,

now at the entrance to the old

Chain of Rocks bridge.

This bridge once crossed 

the Mississippi River, just

north of St. Louis.

Now closed to autos, but open 

to bicycles and hikers.

Once open to the thousands of

automobiles who made the

cross-country trip out west

on Route 66.

The 66 Auto Court featured

FREE RADIO AND TV.

Our riverfront is graced

by this nation's tallest monument,

630 feet tall, stainless steel beauty.

Over-photographed grandeur

to be sure.

But I love shooting her arched leg,

up close, reflecting the sunlight.
