ESCAPING WINTER'S CHILL
AT THE CLIMATRON

A favorite St. Louis retreat
to forget the winter weather
is Missouri Botanical Garden's "Climatron."

With year round tropical temperatures,
the Climatron is the world's first geodesic dome greenhouse
(thanks to inventor Buckminster Fuller)
which houses over 1,500 lowland rain forest plants.

The Climatron, built in 1960,
inspired the outerspace domes in the
science fiction film, Silent Running.

A recent installation of Dale Chihuly
glass sculptures adorn the rain pools within.

(Sure feels good to spend time in the Climatron,
especially when it's freezing cold outside.)
