WHERE OUR 

DRINKING WATER

COMES FROM

This is one of two

water intake houses

in the middle of the

Mississippi River,

where St. Louis gets

it's drinking water.

Built in 1894

and still operating today,

down river from the

Chain of Rocks bridge,

at mile marker 190.2.

Constructed from cut stone

and concrete, to pipe water

to the treatment plant,

withstanding floods and

barge traffic for 124 years.

Wow.
