55 GIANT STEEL BALLS

Recycled steel marine buoys, in fact.

Each one a welded 3,000 lb. sphere,

and bolted together in a giant strand.

Originally designed as a floating maritime blockade,

but now recycled and linked together

as an "objet d'art" at Laumeier Sculpture Park

in St. Louis County by artist, Donald Lipski.

(Check my math, but that makes this

a 82.5-ton work of art.)

POWER OF THE

PEEPING EYE

An artist friend of mine

has created a powerful deterrent

against intruders and burglars

at his local studio and workshop.

After several attempted break-ins 

at the studio rear-alley entrance, 

he has created (and installed)

a life-like art installation

in an opening in his back door . . .

a peeping eye!

Problem solved.

Since then, no one has been brave enough

to investigate unauthorized intrusions.

PINK CONTRAILS

IN A MORNING SKY

Jet aircraft were painting pink paths

across an early morning sky,

as the sun's first rays cast a

red glow on these thin straight clouds.

For these aren't true clouds,

but "contrails" (a contraction

for "condensation trails.")

It takes a very cold upper atmosphere

to form these exhaust streaks from aircraft,

which are actually water ice crystals from

the combustion of hydrogen rich fuel and oxygen.

Contrails start straight and thin,

but soon broaden and dissipate.

(Brush strokes telling us

winter is on the way.)

PLANNING 

SPRING'S BEAUTY

It's pure joy to plan the Spring garden,

and bulbs that will bring forth the first blooms.

Now is the time to till the soil

and layout your scheme for your tulips.

Your bulbs will need a rich bed

where they'll sleep for the winter.

Make sure they're tucked in,

soft and deep,

and they'll thank you in the Spring sun. 

Anticipation!

Magnificent tulips

are worth the fall fuss.

A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY

GOES TRICK-OR-TREATING

Little Metta goes door-to-door

on Halloween, under Dad's

watchful eye of course.

How exciting to put all that candy

in her jack-o-lantern bucket.

Little brother, Eli, was a little

green devil (with horns),

but too young to knock on doors.
