HOW I ENJOYED

THE SEASON'S FIRST BERRIES

Home grown strawberries are now in season.

(Local berries are so incredible.)

So, here's what I did with my first batch:

Strawberry Shortcake!

(No sugar required.

Whipped cream, mandatory.)

IRIS SHOW STOPPERS

I don't remember a more beautiful year

for hybrid Iris.

Our mild, wet winter and spring

have helped make this year's blooms

MAGNIFICENT.

GOOD PICKIN'S

IN THE GARDEN 

Little Eli was a big help

harvesting a bounty of veggies

from the garden.

Radishes, tender spinach,

beautiful lettuce, arugula, chives

and way too much kale.

We planted a "new round" of

eggplant, tomatoes, beets

peppers and parsley.

This kid loves vegetables.

GOOD FOOD, BAD FOOD

A spring-fresh salad of

homegrown strawberries

with sunflower sprouts

and ginger/cashew dressing.

Indescribably delicious

and nutritious.

vs.

"Southern Biscuits & Gravy"

flavored Lays potato chips.

Artificially flavored fried snacks

in a flavor we can probably

live without!

RICHART SPRING

FINALLY GETS A SIGN

One of Missouri's major "feeder springs,"

Richart Spring,

finally gets its official sign installed

at its source and rock stairwell.

Richart is one of the many

pristine natural springs

that feeds into the Meramec River,

with a flow of 1,080,000 gallons/day.

The rock wall and stairwell were

hand built in 1930, as a feature

to the C.C.C. lodge adjoining the spring,

for which we are grateful owner and caretaker.
