STARLING IN A WOOL SOCK
Starlings choose to nest in hollow trees,
open pipes, and dryer exhaust vents.
In our apartment building,
exhaust vents are a favorite nesting spot.
Up high, away from people (and cats.)
Yesterday, a baby starling landed on
our soft, grassy lawn . . .
alive and unharmed, but far below
and away from its mother.
My neighbor, Mary, carefully collected
the baby starling, wrapped it in a wool sock
and placed it in a safe flower pot.
The little bird has no problem
letting Mary know where the food goes.
(We wonder if the starling will imprint
on it's surrogate "mother.")
Awfully cute!

To cute :)
