BACKWARDS STRAWBERRIES
Introducing pineberries
from Holland.
The fruit is white, and
the seeds are red.
Just the opposite
from strawberries!
But don't bother,
'cause they're not
sweet and delicious
like strawberries.
(And more expensive, too.)
I'll stick with our sweet, ripe
home-grown strawberries.
If it ain't broke,
don't fix it.

IN THE CLOVER
has always meant prosperity
and good fortune.
White clover is the most prolific
pasture legume in tropical climates,
highly palatable and a nutritious
forage for livestock.
In agriculture, it is a top choice
for "living mulch" planted
between rows of vegetables,
fruit bushes and trees.
Recently, the Agriculture Department
has recommended adding clover
for healthy home lawns,
nurturing the soil and resisting disease.
(Finding one with four leaves
is, of course, good luck!)

SUNKEN CITIES
NOW DISCOVERED
More than 1200 years ago,
two ancient cities were lost
to the Mediterranean Sea.
Recent discoveries are now on display
at the St. Louis Art Museum of
remarkably preserved artifacts
of the lost Egyptian cities of
Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus,
buried at sea until now.
Preserved under the oceans,
until now.
(On display through Sept. 9)
Stunning religious and ceremonial
artifacts from the age of the pharaohs.

JUST PICKED
LOCAL TOMATOES
IN MAY?
Thanks to Amish growers,
and "hoop houses"
we've got beautiful ripe tomatoes
at the market this week.
At least they look delicious,
but they'll never compare to
mid-summer ripened tomatoes
grown outside!
(At least they're not trucked in
from Florida or California.)
Always best to grow your own.
