TWO PAINTINGS

15 minutes until the museum closed . . .

enough time to say hello to 2 of my favorites

at the St. Louis Art Musuem:

1) Matisse, Bathers With A Turtle (1907)

A trio of naked, melancholic women gather

around a turtle on a beach.  The central

woman, with a mask-like face,

anxiously chews her fingers.

2) Oskar Kokoschka, Painter and His Model (1923)

Self portrait of the artist at work. 

I love how he paints his model, smiling,

obviously pleased, with an OK added for approval.

So much emotion in these two

expressionistic oil paintings.

SUNNY SPRING DAY

AT FOREST PARK

A perfect day to enjoy 

 St. Louis' fabulous Forest Park.

Sun bathing at the Art Museum,

walking around the Grand Basin,

getting in 9-holes on the golf course.

Or just enjoying the view!

ROGUE UNDERGROUND DINING

TEAMS UP WITH SHAKESPEARE

As part of the annual "Shake 38" festival,

Rogue Underground Dining hosted

a 6-course gourmet meal

for 26 lucky guests,

while they were treated to a live performance

of Shakespeare's HAMLET

by the R-S Theatrics Company.

The Rogue chefs and staff

created and served this multi-course

in between scenes of this

complete performance.

Each of Shakespeare's plays

are performed throughout St. Louis

each year, at 38 different venues.

Rogue drew Hamlet this year.

FRESH SHOPPING

SATURDAY FARMERS MARKET

Nothing better than shopping 

fresh from the growers.

The bounty of a Spring harvest

is wonderful to behold

(and taste).

Here's what I picked up:

Crisp lettuce greens, fresh asparagus,

colorful Swiss chard, baby turnips,

sweet kohlrabi, and

the most amazing Cuban black bean

spicy spread and hot hummus!

And a pair of freshly baked

croissants from the patisserie next door.

(For the black bean hummus, of course.)

THE CLYDESDALES

ARE IN TOWN

If you're in mind

to buy a Clydesdale horse,

St. Louis is the place to be 

this weekend.

Customers from around the world

are here for the

National Clydesdale Auction,

and will spend between $5,000

and $70,000 per horse

for these gentle giants,

for riding, pulling, breeding or working.

 (160 horses are up for auction.)

Clydesdales were originally bred in

Clydesdale, Scotland

and are known for their strength

and the long hair covering their ankles

. . . and for pulling the famous

     Budweiser beer wagon!

IS THAT A DOG

IN MY YOGA CLASS?

Yep, you're not seeing things.

This past weekend,

there were 2 DOGS at the

outdoor yoga class . . .

alongside their masters,

and perfectly behaved.

DOGA 

(Yoga for you and your dog)

is catching on

and a soothing practice to

de-stress and calm owners

and their canine companions.

(I love it.)
