DOG DAYS OF SPRING

It's that special time of Spring,

when the dogwood trees all bloom.

The daffodils have come,

the tulips too.

But somehow we all wait

for the magnificent buds

of the flowering dogwood

to spread their mantels.

Shades of pale pink and

deepest reds, but in the wild

they're only white.

After all, white flowering dogwood

is the state tree of Missouri.
