3-WAY PLUG

This enormous three-way electrical plug

lies partially buried in the ground,

in front of the St. Louis Art Museum.

American artist, Claes Oldenburg (born Sweden),

created and installed the sculpture himself

in this location in 1971,

noting the "arching lines and recessed spaces

complemented the classical design

of the museum building."

Oldenburg produces monumental sculptures

of everyday consumer objects.
