can capture the essence and atmosphere
of the countryside, a scene . . .
like his "Stairway At Auvers"
(1890, oil on canvas),
permanent collection St. Louis Art Museum.
How efficient his use of colors,
his brush movement,
to capture this composition.
An elderly man descending a stairway,
while two pair of women
walk along a French village road.
In one his final letters,
he described Auvers as
"the real countryside,
of grave beauty."
His brush must have moved quickly.
What genius.

ReplyDeletei think he was a reall master such a depht in his paintings♥♥sometimes i wonder if Munch did look at his paintings..I see a similiar in his work..By the way..didnt Gogh cut of his ear??Was he deluded?
But he did some nice work..thanx for inspiration!!I have to go to the art museum a day♥♥

I have been to a fair amount of museums, all over, but can't recall viewing a Van Gogh in person. What talent.
