WATERMELON DAYS

These are my favorite days

shopping at the outdoor markets.

Local growers selling their 

     ripe just-picked produce . . . 

fragrant peaches, heirloom tomatoes,

and mountains of watermelons,

warm from the field.

Have you ever thumped a watermelon?

(The sweet ones answer back.)

Crack one open.

Warm, juicy, so refreshing.

These are watermelon days.
